Location and Territory

The Territory of the Reichsstadt Rottweil till 1802

The city Rottweil was until 1802, when it got a part of Württemberg, an independent city within the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation ("Frei- und Reichsstadt") and had no other souvereign than the Emperor. It had a small, however, non-coherent territory of up to 30 villages (at the same time) around it.

The red colour on the following map indicates the affiliation to the Reichsstadt Rottweil. The green marked areas belonged to Württemberg. The khaki-coloured areas show the possessions of Austria ("Vorderösterreich"). The yellow mark is the border of the Landkreis Rottweil as it is today.

The territorial structure of the region till about 1800 combined with the border of the Landkreis Rottweil of today
